The Daily Antioxidant Challenge
Do you get your Daily Antioxidants . . . is it even Possible?

How important are your Daily Antioxidants?

"Antioxidants are substances that protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food, or by environmental exposures like tobacco smoke and radiation. Free radicals can damage cells, and may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases. Studies suggest that a diet high in antioxidants from fruits and vegetables is associated with a lower risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease." - Mayo Clinic
"Insufficient levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, can cause oxidative stress and may damage or kill your cells." - Wikipedia
"What are antioxidants? They are vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that protect and repair cells from damage caused by free radicals. Many experts believe this damage plays a part in a number of chronic diseases, including hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), cancer, and arthritis. Free radicals can also interfere with your immune system. So, fighting off damage with antioxidants helps keep your immune system strong, making you better able to ward off colds, flu, and other infections." - WebMD

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is challenging. Consuming all of the daily nutrients your body needs is nearly impossible. That’s why it’s important to turn to NuVerus for our advanced SuperFood antioxidant formula . . . NuVerus Plus. Plus provides you with all the antioxidants your body needs on a daily basis, plus essential vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. You can rest assured that you’re getting exactly what you need to lead a healthy, energized, and youthful life.

ORAC, which stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is a testing guideline which measures the total antioxidant power of foods. Many studies—most notably one by the Agricultural Research Service’s Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging—has concluded that foods that score high in ORAC may protect cells from oxidative damage.  The Agricultural Research Service, states that people may be able to reduce their risk of disease by simply adding high ORAC foods into their diets.  The study found that eating plenty of high ORAC foods raised the antioxidant power of human blood by 10 to 25 percent!

The USDA recommends Americans consume 3,000 to 5,000 units of ORAC daily; however, studies show that the average person consumes only 1,200 ORAC units daily. To accomplish the recommended ORAC intake (3,000 – 5,000) each day, the USDA recommends 3 to 5 servings of fruit per day and 2 to 4 servings of vegetables per day. However, even consuming these quantities of fruits and vegetables may not be enough: Due to over-processing of most of the foods in the American diet, and by aggressive farming practices, which deplete the nutrient levels of the soil and the food grown in it, even fruit and vegetable aficionados are oftentimes taking in inadequate ORAC levels.  This means that even the health-conscious ORAC consumer would be wise to consider complimenting his or her diet with a high-ORAC supplement.

Doctors and Researchers have concluded that the human body can significantly benefit from higher amounts of antioxidants. The NuVerus Medical Advisory Board recommends 18,000 ORAC Units per day for optimal health . . .  2 ounces of NuVerus Plus.

NuVerus Plus  . . . the answer to your Daily Antioxidant needs.

ORAC Testing (antioxidant) - Testing showed that NuVerus Plus now has the highest score ever tested for a liquid nutrition product. NuVerus Plus has an incredible ORAC score of 278,000 per bottle or almost 9000 units of antioxidants in one ounce.

Black Seed

Black Seed (scientific name: Nigella Sativa) is known around the world and throughout history for its restorative and medicinal qualities. Truly Black Seed is one of nature's greatest gifts, and that is probably why it is referred to as the "seed of blessing." The ancient Egyptians and Assyrians recognized the power of this healing herb as early as 3000 years ago. Found in the tomb of Tutankhamen, “King Tut”, Black Seed was thought to help the Pharaohs in the afterlife. Physicians as far back as the 1st century used Black Seed to treat a variety of ailments and sicknesses.

Black Seed grows wild in the Mediterranean but has been cultivated in the Arabian Peninsula, Asia and Africa. It’s oil, which has a rich composition of more than 100 compounds including essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.

Black Seed is remarkable in that it is one of the few natural, herbal remedies that has been studied by the scientific community and found to have tremendous potential benefit. Today, more and more medical scientists and professionals are recognizing the power of this amazing little seed. It was recently recommended as an herbal remedy by the World Health Organization. Curcumin

Curcumin, the principal derivative of the popular Indian spice turmeric, is an herb found naturally in India and southern Asia. For at least four thousand years, it has been touted for its health benefits, and still today it’s used throughout India. Research has shown that Curcumin’ s anti-inflammatory properties may be able to prevent free radical damage at the cellular level.

Curcumin is impressing scientists around the world with its remarkable multiple health benefits. Curcumin is a polyphenol present in the spice turmeric and was first used by Indians over 3,000 years ago in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Modern science has found that curcumin has remarkable health benefits for nearly every organ system in the body including its ability to inhibit enzymes that help produce inflammation in the body. The antioxidant power and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric are all thanks to a component called curcumin, which is found in the common spice.

In the Indian Ayurveda system of herbal medicine, turmeric is known as strengthening and warming to the whole body.  Traditional uses in India include to improve digestion, to improve intestinal flora, to eliminate worms, to relieve gas, to cleanse and strengthen the liver and gallbladder, to normalize menstruation, for relief of arthritis and swelling, as a blood purifier, to warm and promote proper metabolism correcting both excesses and deficiencies, for local application on sprains, burns, cuts, bruises, insect bites and itches, for soothing action in cough and asthma, as antibacterial and anti-fungus, and in any condition of weakness or debility.

Many high quality studies show that it has major benefits for your body and brain.
Recently, science has started to back up what the Indians have known for a long time… it really does contain compounds with medicinal properties

Aloe

The generations of past mention the healing methods of Aloe vera plants being handed down through the centuries by word of mouth.  We find that the use of Aloe vera appears throughout history with many testimonials of its medicinal values.  The earliest record of Aloe vera use comes from the Egyptians.  There are records of the Egyptians drawing pictures of Aloe vera plants on the walls of the temples. Many cultures such as the Egyptians would have even elevated the plant to a ‘god-like’ status. The healing properties of the Aloe vera were utilized for centuries earning the name “Plant of Immortality”. One of the common myths about the Aloes was that the two Egyptian queens, Nefertiti and Cleopatra used Aloe vera as part of their beauty treatments. However some sources refute these findings.

The Mahometans of Egypt thought of Aloe vera as a religious symbol, and. they believed that the holy symbol hanging in the doorway would protect them from slanderous and evil influence.  The Egyptians used the Aloe vera to make papyrus like scrolls as well as for treatment of tuberculosis.  In ancient Egypt when a Pharaoh died, the funeral ceremony was by invitation only with a price tag included:  a pound of Aloes.  Egyptians used the odorous mixture of Aloe and myrrh for embalming and also placed it with the burial clothes.  A man’s wealth and esteem for the king were estimated by the number of pounds of Aloes he brought.4

The aged people of Mesopotamia, a country located between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in present day Iraq used the Aloe vera to hold off the evil spirits from their residences.  During the Crusades, the Knights of Templar created a drink of palm wine, Aloe pulp and hemp, which was named ‘the Elixir of Jerusalem’ and they believed that it added years to their health and life.

Aloe Vera’s Active Ingredients

Aloe vera could be considered a superfood, the leaf is filled with a gel containing at least 75 nutrients, 20 minerals, 12 vitamins, 18 amino acids, and 200 active enzymes. These compounds have tremendous benefit and potential in external and internal applications.
THE BENEFITS OF ALOE VERA HAVE BEEN KNOWN FOR CENTURIES!

When you are drinking Aloe Vera in NuVerus Plus you are taking a vitamin and mineral cocktail. You’ll be surprised to know that this bitter tasting juice contains a large variety of vital minerals and vitamins. You will get vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, E, Niacin and Folic Acid. Wait! That’s not all it contains minerals like Sodium, Iron, Calcium, Copper, Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese and Chromium, and not to forget the 19 amino acids out of which 8 are those that our body cannot produce itself..

The benefits of Aloe Vera are numerous and astonishing. And this is not because the inner gel of the leaves of the aloe plant is a "panacea", but simply because it balances and complements satisfactorily our body's nutrition.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol first captured the attention of the world's scientific community (and the general public!) in 2003 when experiments conducted by Dr. David Sinclair at Harvard appeared in the prestigious journal, Nature. Sinclair's pioneering research demonstrated the life extending benefits of Resveratrol in mice, the first experiments performed on mammals.

But the story really dates back to the 1930s when scientists at Cornell University discovered the life-extending effects of calorie restriction, or CR. In animal tests they found that cutting calorie intake by about a third extended life span by 30 percent or more. The animals on the diet remained healthier, longer. It is believed that calorie restriction has the same effect on the human body.

Resveratrol is an extremely potent antioxidant (part of the family called polyphenols) found in certain fruits and vegetables. In nature, the highest concentration is found in grapes.
Many researchers believe that Resveratrol is primarily responsible for what's called "The French Paradox": the observation that the people of France, in general, enjoy good cardiovascular health even though their diet is high in fat.

A 2003 study at Harvard University found that resveratrol mimics the effects of caloric restriction in yeast cells, boosting their life spans by as much as 70%.3 The following year the researchers went on to demonstrate that resveratrol slows aging in two standard laboratory animals, roundworms and fruit flies.4 That made resveratrol the first compound to show anti-aging effects in widely divergent species. Then in 2006, scientists in Pisa, Italy, showed that resveratrol’s magic could be applied to more advanced animals— large doses of resveratrol extended the life span by more than 50% in a species of fish, Nothobranchius furzeri, which typically lives just nine weeks.

In a study published in 2006 in the journal Cell, researchers in France found that resveratrol protects mice against diet-induced insulin resistance and obesity.6 Furthermore, mice given the resveratrol supplement demonstrated improved endurance levels during exercise. The researchers also studied the cell-signaling pathway in the mitochondria of these mice. Mitochondria are the power plants of cells, which are responsible for intracellular energy production. Resveratrol activated a protein in the sirtuin family (SIRT1), which then stimulated the activity of another protein involved in mitochondrial function. Other recent studies, including one conducted at the Joslin Diabetes Center, have found another member of the sirtuin family of cellular proteins that may play a major role in how fat is produced and stored, offering a new target for treatments to prevent obesity and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The French researchers surmised that resveratrol helped control weight gain by enhancing energy expenditure.

Since the study found a link between sirtuins and energy utilization, the researchers concluded that resveratrol may be helpful in the prevention and treatment of certain metabolic disorders, especially those related to mitochondrial dysfunction, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease—two neurodegenerative conditions that become more prevalent with aging.

Resveratrol is usually associated with grapes, but it is also found in other plants such as mulberries and peanuts. Interestingly, resveratrol is produced more abundantly by plants when they fall under some type of environmental attack. When a plant is under stress, the rate of resveratrol production is cranked up with the help of an enzyme called resveratrol synthase.

It is interesting that resveratrol is not found in the flesh of the grape only in the skin. But this explains why red wines contain higher concentrations of resveratrol than white wines or ros wines. The process of making red wine calls for the skins of the grapes to stay in contact longer with the final wine. Also, red wines are subjected to less filtering during winemaking, which limits the loss of resveratrol.

Resveratrol was originally isolated from the root of a flowering herb called hellebore in 1940. However, it didn't attract wide attention until 1992 when its presence in wine was first linked with the heart health benefits of red wine.

  • Resveratrol is the beneficial substance found in red wine. A typical glass of red wine supplies about 1 mg of resveratrol.
  • Resveratrol possesses beneficial antioxidant properties.
  • A lab study found that the combination of resveratrol and quercetin supported cellular health and function.
  • Grape extract contains flavonoid polyphenols, ellagic acid, and resveratrol.
  • Polyphenols possess beneficial antioxidant activity that helps fight cell-damaging free radicals in the body.

Acai

Açai berry extract is derived from the deep purple, grape-sized fruit of the açai palm which grows in South America. The açai berry has been used traditionally for arthritis and heart disease, and for improving general health. The pulp of the açai berry is rich in antioxidants that may protect cells from damage associated with aging, disease, and environmental toxins. Research has shown that açai berries have more antioxidant power than cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, or blueberries
Deep within the Amazon forest, you’ll find a small, grape-sized berry known as the Brazilian Acai fruit. For eons, this special berry has been used for by people seeking health benefits. Today, we are just beginning to understand the exceptional anti-oxidant power of the Acai fruit. The Acai Berry is rich in anti-oxidants as well as other vitamins and minerals.

Brazilian natives discovered the healing properties of the acai berry thousands of years ago, as they found it boosted their energy when consumed regularly. Because of its extraordinarily high nutritional value, indigenous tribes also used acai to treat various ailments and support a quick recovery. It has been said to have sustained natives of the Amazon during times of famine.

Acai has all the vitamins and minerals of most fruits, but also boasts a range of unique plant chemical compounds found in no other fruit on the planet. As a matter of fact, recent studies by Dr. Stephen Talcott conducted at the University of Florida show that there are 50-75 active natural compounds in acai that have yet to be identified.

Among acai’s many antioxidants is one particular powerhouse called anthocyanin, which is suspected to be the driving force behind acai’s free-radical and age-fighting powers. It’s common in fruits with rich red and purple colors, like grapes and berries, but acai has far more than any other food. Acai’s ORAC level (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is over 3,500, which is hundreds of times higher than your average fruits like apples and bananas.

Also, it might surprise you that the little acai berry packs more grams of protein than an egg, and when combined with its host of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, acai has been shown to improve the look and texture of your hair, skin and nails.

Black Currant

The recorded history of black currants appear to date only to the 1600s. Herbalist records tell us that black currant juice was used to treat bladder stones, liver disorders, coughs, and lung ailments.

Black currants have been grown in northern Europe as a fruit crop for 400-500 years, but were not excessively popular until World War II in Great Britain. At that time fruits high in vitamin C, like oranges, became very difficult to find. There were very few fruits that grew naturally in the nation that were high in vitamin C, except for 1 - black currants - which have 3-4 times the amount of vitamin C per serving as an orange does.

Knowing the importance of vitamin C for human health, the British government encouraged black currant cultivation. Black currant concentrates were developed that could be turned into beverages and flavorings. The popularity of black currant flavoring in Britain continues to this day.

Antioxidant Power
The health benefits of black currant juice are many. By far the biggest appeal is the antioxidant power found in these tiny purple berries. The system used to measure the antioxidant strength of individual fruits is called TEAC (Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity). According to the findings from this system, the antioxidant power found within currant is more than twice that of any other fruits. The antioxidants in black currant juice help to fight free radicals found within the body that could be potentially harmful to your health. They work to stop any potential damage before the free radicals can fully take effect and harm the healthy cells in your body.

Anti-Inflammatory Benefits
As mentioned above, one of the health-promoting ingredients in black currant seed oil is gamma-linolenic acid (GLA.) This GLA is a powerful anti-inflammatory, which is used to treat the swelling and pain associated with arthritis, as well as gastritis, which is inflammation of the stomach. A report from the American Association of Anti-aging Medicine states that black currant works against inflammation by stimulating the production of prostaglandin-1, an anti-inflammatory hormone.

Anti-Aging Benefits
As we age, there is an increase of the production of prostaglandin E2 in the body. While this compound is necessary for functions such as muscle contraction, if there is too much of it, it can have negative effects on the immune system, and increase the risk of age-related diseases. The National Institutes of Health reports a study that shows that supplementation with black currant helps to suppress the production of prostaglandin E2, thereby boosting the immune system function of the aging. The same report from the American Association of Anti-aging Medicine mentioned above states that supplementing with 4.5 gm per day supports the immune system.

Excellent Source of Vitamin C and Potassium
Black currants pack a powerful nutritional punch and have been used for centuries to cure many human ailments. Black currants are an excellent source of Vitamin C as well as Potassium. The Potassium levels in black currants are shown to be twice as much as the content found in bananas and the Vitamin C levels exceed that of oranges by four times. They are rich in many phytonutrients, antioxidants and vitamins.  Their antioxidant power is double that of the more well-known blueberries. In addition black currants contain a very rare Omega-6 essential fatty acid called Gamma-Linoleic Acid which is excellent for your health.

Potassium
The potassium content in black currant juice is equivalent to 361mg making black currants an excellent source of potassium. The potassium found in currants offer vital nutrients to your body and can help to combat high blood pressure and stroke. It is also known to help maintain a healthy heart as and digestive system. The daily recommended intake of potassium is 4,700 and black currants are an excellent source.

The Amazing Health Benefits of Blackcurrant Juice Black Currants are among the many berries that are very high in nutrient content and are excellent for your health. Black currant is more potent and offer powerful health benefits for the conscious consumer. Many people have heard about this amazing juice but are unaware of exactly what the health benefits

Blueberry

The blueberry was gathered and used by Native Americans for centuries before colonists arrived from Europe. The blueberry was sacred to the Indians in part because the blossom-end of the berry is shaped like a five-pointed star. The Indians believed that the berries were sent by the Great Spirit during a great famine to relieve the hunger of their children.

The Native Americans ate blueberries fresh and dried them to preserve them for use in winter. The berries were mixed with meat to make pemmican, and mixed with cornmeal, honey and water to make a pudding called “sautauthig”. The juice of the fruit was used to make cough syrup while the leaves were made into a tea meant to fortify the blood. The juice was also used as a dye for cloth and baskets.

The health benefits of blueberries are even bigger than you might know. Scientific studies show that blueberries contain a category of phytonutrients called polyphenols.  This group includes anthocyanins which give blueberries their blue color. Research suggests that polyphenols have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can play an important role in helping to lessen the inflammatory.

Blueberries are high in Vitamin C, which promotes a healthy immune system, and manganese, which plays an important role in bone development. They’re also a good source of dietary fiber, which contributes to heart health, helping to keep cholesterol in check.

Plus, one easy way to make sure you’re eating a balanced diet is to fill your plate with a rainbow of fruits and vegetables … and blueberries provide that perfect shade of blue!
Goji

The goji berry, a sweet red fruit native to Asia, serves as both a botanical medicine and a food, and has a very pleasant taste - somewhere between a cherry and a cranberry. It has been used as a medicinal food for thousands of years, and has been studied extensively in modern times to substantiate its health benefits. With over 4g protein, 21 essential minerals, and 18 amino acids, as well as lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP), goji berry is a nutrient-dense superfood in a class all its own.

Here are just a few of the many benefits you get from eating goji berries:

  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Provides antioxidant and anti-aging effects
  • Protects the liver
  • Builds strong blood and promotes cardiovascular health
  • Supports eye health and improves vision

Goji berries have been enjoyed for over 2,000 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Navitas Naturals Goji Berries can be eaten by the handful, and they provide a superfruit boost to oatmeal, cookies, trail mix and more. A surprisingly strong source of protein, goji berries also contain a wealth of antioxidants and over 20 vitamins and minerals.

Goji berries grow on an evergreen shrub found in temperate and subtropical regions in China, Mongolia and in the Tibetan Himalayas. They are in the nightshade (Solonaceae) family. Goji berries are usually sold dried. They are shriveled red berries that look like red raisins. Goji berry juice has been marketed as an antioxidant-rich juice.

The goji berry, also known as the wolfberry, has been cherished throughout Asia as one of the most nutrient-rich foods for thousands of years. Several accounts have been documented throughout time heralding the health benefits of the berry. Only recently have Western cultures discovered the remarkable nutritional profile of this tasty little berry.

Goji berries (Lycium barbarum) are the most nutritionally dense fruit on Earth. They are a member of the nightshade family (Solonaceae), which contains many other common vegetables such as potato, sweet potato, tomato, eggplant, and pepper, as well as some poisonous plants like belladonna and deadly nightshade. Native to the Himalayan Mountains of Tibet and Mongolia, the goji berry is now grown in many other countries as well.

Unique among fruits because they contain all essential amino acids, goji berries also have the highest concentration of protein of any fruit. They are also loaded with vitamin C, contain more carotenoids than any other food, have twenty-one trace minerals, and are high in fiber. Boasting 15 times the amount of iron found in spinach, as well as calcium, zinc, selenium and many other important trace minerals, there is no doubt that the humble goji berry is a nutritional powerhouse.

This amazing little superfruit also contains natural anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal compounds. Their powerful antioxidant properties and polysaccharides help to boost the immune system. It’s no wonder then, that in traditional Chinese medicine they are renowned for increasing strength and longevity.

Green Tea

The real history of Green Tea dates back to the 8th century, when the method steaming the leaves to inhibit their oxidation was discovered.  In the 12th century a new frying method of “fixing” the leaves was introduced.  Both of these processes resulted in teas that have the characteristic un-oxidized taste and appearance to modern green teas, and both processes are still in use today.  Since those early days, as the popularity and production of green tea increased the methods of producing green tea have continuously evolved and improved.

Why are antioxidants good for us?

Certain molecules known as free radicals are produced when our body breaks down food or even due to smoking or drinking. These free radicals attack the healthy cells in our body and lead to several problems including ageing. Antioxidants are certain substances that protect our cells from the damage inflicted by the action of these free radicals.

Scientists have identified six different catechins in green tea, one of them being epigallocatechingallate (EGCG). EGCG in green tea increases the metabolic rate of the human body, which means that it intensifies levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories, which in turn aids weight loss. Green tea reduces body fat and bloating, while detoxifying the body and suppressing untimely food cravings. Enabled with diuretic properties, it also eliminates excess water and thereby reduces excess weight. Hence, drinking green tea daily can really help you in your weight loss journey.

Mangosteen

The indigenous people of Southeast Asia have treasured and revered the Mangosteen fruit for its multiple health benefits for hundreds of years. They understood, used and obtained many health benefits from the "Queen of Fruits".

They used the whole fruit, especially the rind or pericarp, to prevent and treat infections, control fever, reduce pain, treat inflammation, diarrhea, cystitis, gleet, gonorrhea, dysentery, eczema and a wide variety of other common health problems.

Where do all these amazing health benefits of the exotic Mangosteen fruit come from?

Mangosteen contains potent, natural healing compounds called Xanthones, which experts say represent the next generation of powerful, biologically-active chemical compounds from nature. The whole fruit is the single, most abundant source of Xanthones. Xanthones have been winning praise from scientists and researchers for their pharmaceutical properties and medicinal value.
Hundreds of years of folk medicine experience, independent scientific studies and clinical experience all suggest that the Xanthones in Mangosteen may offer benefits for every organ system in our body and provide a natural and safe alternative to conventional therapies and drugs.

What makes Garcinia Mangostana L. so versatile in addressing so many health issues and in promoting health in so many ways?
Mangosteen contains more than 40 biologically-active, natural chemical compounds called Xanthones. While all these Xanthones have similar molecular structures, each one has its own unique chemical composition that permits it to perform a specific function.
Alpha-mangostin, for example, is a very potent antioxidant. Gamma-mangostin is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Garcinone E is a strong anti-tumor agent.

These and the other Xanthones found in the Mangosteen provide a virtual medicine chest of natural healing compounds that address a wide variety of health issues.

Xanthones in Mangosteen

Our immune system tries to keep trillions of cells in our bodies protected from disease-causing toxins, free radicals, viruses, bacteria, fungi and other harmful agents.

At times, though, our immune system gets overwhelmed. Our bodies get sick, often because of free radical damage. A free radical is an unstable atom with an unpaired electron. When a free radical comes in contact with a stable atom, it steals the electron it needs from the stable atom. This leaves the once stable atom irreparably damaged and prone to succumb to disease. Antioxidants counteract free radicals. They have an extra electron that they can share with free radicals. Because of this ability, they are able to prevent free radicals from attacking healthy atoms or cells.

Mangosteen contains powerful antioxidants and immune system boosters called Xanthones, natural chemical compounds which were proven to possess a variety of potent medicinal properties. Xanthones occupy a special place in the Mangosteen's arsenal of healing compounds. They have been shown to have more potent antioxidant activity than vitamin E, one of nature's most powerful known antioxidants.

A laboratory test known as ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), for example, showed that an ounce of Mangosteen juice provides 20 to 30 times more capacity to absorb free radicals than an ounce of most fruits and vegetables.
This exotic fruit, used in traditional medicine for centuries, contains some of the most potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal compounds in nature.

Independent scientific research studies and clinical experience all show the remarkable health benefits of Mangosteen.

Noni fruit has had hardly any scientific study therefore; the benefits supplied in this post are to this day not scientifically confirmed. We do know that this is a effective anti-oxidant as well as anti-inflammatory which usually certainly have applications to enhancing overall health.

1. Antioxidant
Antioxidants assist to battle toxins within the body. Free-radicals include the byproducts of food metabolism. Free radicals result in the oxidization of tissues. This originally leads to swelling in your body and finally can result in disease. Antioxidants eliminate toxins supplying the body along with defense against cardiovascular disease as well as cancer.

2. Anti-inflammatory
Noni fruit is really a effective anti-inflammatory that makes it relevant in lots of inflamation related illnesses. Pomegranate

Ancient legend, world religions, history and traditional medicine have all celebrated the unique beauty and health benefits of the pomegranate. It is a fruit of legend and power - a sacred symbol of human civilization. Mankind has revered the magical, mystical pomegranate since the dawn of recorded history. Ancient Greeks, Romans, and the peoples of China, India and the Middle East found its properties to be life-giving and invigorating.

This beautiful fruit has played a central role in the mythological and spiritual foundations of cultures worldwide. Christianity, Judaism, Greek Orthodox, Hinduism, and ancient Middle Eastern philosophies all revered its power and mysterious properties. In Buddhism, the pomegranate is considered a blessed fruit. In Judaism, it represents sanctity, fertility and abundance.

Pomegranates are a powerful symbol in Christian art representing the resurrection and eternal life. In works by Botticelli, Raphael and Filippino Lippi pomegranates represent plenitude, hope, spiritual fruitfulness and chastity.

Known as "The Fruit of Life," pomegranates were believed to spring from The Garden of Paradise. As the traditional symbol of fertility and rebirth, they became a popular wedding present in some countries, expressing the wish, "May you have as many children as there are seeds!"

Pomegranates figured prominently in Greek myths. In one of the most famous, Hades, god of the underworld, used the fruit to tempt Persephone, daughter of Zeus, into marriage. Hades captured her attention with the alluring beauty of the pomegranate and by telling her that its seeds were jewels to be kissed and savored. Sadly the seduction of Persephone with a pomegranate resulted in her being imprisoned for four months every year in the Underworld, while the earth experienced cold winter. When she was released for eight months each year, the earth warmed, trees and flowers bloomed and vegetables grew. Thanks to the myth, pomegranates forever became a symbol of the cycle of life and death.

The Pomegranate as Traditional Medicine

Almost every major culture loved the pomegranate so much that for nearly 8,000 years people have incorporated the delicate flowers, the sparkling ruby seeds (called arils), the juice and tangy rind, not only in their sacred practices but also into their foods, their medicines and their cosmetics.

It is believed that the beautiful Helen of Troy, with a face that launched 1,000 ships, used the juice of the pomegranate, both as a healthful drink, and as rouge for her cheeks and lips. The pomegranate was also thought to bestow invincibility upon the person who enjoyed its glittering sweet tartness.

Ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine traditionally used pomegranate to lower fever. In Greek medicine the flowers were used to treat diabetes, while the root and bark were used to stop bleeding, dysentery and heal ulcers. The ancient Egyptians used the fruit to combat intestinal worms.
For over 4,000 years humans have cultivated pomegranates for their medicinal properties. Traditional healers experimented with its juice, seeds, leaves, flowers, bark, roots and skin.

The Pomegranate and Modern Science

But the golden age of the pomegranate is just dawning. In addition to an ancient, glorious and legendary past, this beautiful fruit is on the edge of a promising future in medical science. It is only recently that modern science has accelerated its interest in the health benefits of pomegranates. In 1964 researchers conducted the first study on pomegranate. It was another 20 years before the second study was published. In 2004 there were 20 published studies. Today, there are over 400 studies on the benefits of pomegranates to human health.

This scientific research has revealed that the pomegranate contains three primary powers: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hormone balancing.

Antioxidant polyphenols in pomegranates help protect the body against 'free radicals" - unstable molecules that cause cellular damage to our bodies over time. The juice of the pomegranate has been found to contain higher levels of antioxidants than most other fruit juices, including cranberry or blueberry, and more even than red wine or green tea. The pomegranate is particularly rich in certain tannins containing these antioxidant polyphenols such as punicalagin, anthocyanins and ellagic acid.

Anti-inflammatory compounds in pomegranate include punicic acid, a fatty acid found in the oil of pomegranate seeds. Punicic acid is known to inhibit the effects of certain inflammatory compounds in the body.

Natural phytoestrogens (estrogens from plants) are more abundant in pomegranate than in any other botanical source. These weaker plant estrogens block the effects of more powerful human-produced estrogens by fitting into the cell receptor sites for estrogen. These weak, safe estrogens can fit in these specialized "keyholes," blocking the more powerful and harmful estrogens.

Quercetin

Quercetin is an flavonoid (plant pigment) commonly found in fruits and vegetables, especially onions, citrus, and apples. Other sources include dark berries, grapes and olive oil. Green tea and red wine have also been pointed out as having notable amounts of quercetin. The primary benefit of quercetin is that it possesses potent antioxidants. Antioxidants fight against free radicals –- chemically reactive compounds that damage cell membranes and DNA and also cause cell death. In fact, many of the benefits you’ll often hear attributed to antioxidants refer to the effects associated with quercetin. Let’s take a look at what some of them are.

Supports Normal Respiratory Health

When your respiratory system is irritated, redness and swelling can result from the release of histamines, and quercetin has been reported to have an antihistamine effect. Lab tests have shown quercetin influences intracellular enzymes and may help inhibit histamine release. This can often provide relief for watery eyes, runny nose, and swelling in the face

Supports Cardiovascular Health

Studies have shown that the consumption of flavonoids, specifically quercetin, offer a twofold benefit (at least) in promoting overall cardiovascular health. First, it encourages blood flow. Secondly, researchers have observed that quercetin’s antioxidant action protects against LDL cholesterol oxidation. This may be beneficial because oxidation causes LDL cholesterol to stick to artery walls.

Promotes Balanced Blood Pressure

In addition to supporting cardiovascular health, quercetin naturally promotes balanced blood pressure. A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled, crossover study evaluated the effect of quercetin supplementation and reported that the participants experienced a stabilization in systolic, diastolic and average arterial pressure.

Offers Protection Against Stress

When your body is stressed, it produces cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that produces that “fight or flight” response. Although this is normal, when your stress levels are high and ongoing, cortisol can damage muscle tissue, leading to protein breakdown in the body. Quercetin can fight these effects during times of extended stress as it suppresses the enzyme necessary for cortisol release

Potential for Upper Respiratory Conditions?

Although the jury is still out, numerous animal studies and lab models have suggested that quercetin may offer a bronchial dilating effect. A 2013 study determined that it inhibited an enzyme that breaks down signaling proteins which produce swelling and airway narrowing. Quercetin caused a relaxation of the airway smooth muscle, leading researchers to suggest it may offer therapeutic solutions for persons suffering from upper respiratory conditions.

Offers Nutritional Support for Overall Health

Listen, putting good nutrition into your body is one of the best measures you can take to encourage good health. It’s not a guarantee, and some people will still get sick, but it’s a good foundation and fundamental approach. Why should quercetin be part of your approach? Because research has shown that people who consume more fruits and vegetables have a lower risk of diseases.

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) that can cause damage. Antioxidants act as "free radical scavengers" and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals.

Antioxidants are present in foods as vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and polyphenols, among others. Many antioxidants are often identified in food by their distinctive colors such as the deep red of cherries and of tomatoes; the orange of carrots; the yellow of corn, mangos, and saffron; and the blue-purple of blueberries, blackberries, and grapes. The most well-known components of food with antioxidant activities are vitamins A, C, and E; ß-carotene; the mineral selenium; and more recently, the compound lycopene.

Recent findings in research and literature suggest that fruits and vegetables in combination have synergistic effects on antioxidant activities leading to greater protection from free radical damage. The combination of powerful antioxidants and natural super foods in NuVerus Plus, along with the high bio-availability of Aloe Vera, make NuVerus Plus one of the most powerful antioxidants formulas ever created.

NuVerus Plus CAP-e Testing

The CAP-e test results for NuVerus Plus were one of the highest ever in the history of CAP-e testing on Natural Products

NIS Labs, a Natural Products Research Laboratory, specializes in cell-based testing and clinical pilot studies. NIS Labs began developing the CAP-e assay for testing the bioavailability of antioxidants at the cellular level in order to provide a more accessible test to the Natural Products Industry.

The CAP-e assay (Cell-based Antioxidant Protection in Erythrocytes) is a new method for evaluating the antioxidant potential of natural products based on the concept that many such antioxidant products are only of biological relevance if they are able to protect living cells. In other words, it is a cell-based assay for the evaluation of whether antioxidants in natural products are capable of protecting live cells from oxidative damage. The test is designed to measure the antioxidant bioavailability of a product at a cellular level.

The CAP-e antioxidant protection test is the new industry standard specifically developed to investigate how bioavailable the antioxidants are to the cells. This cell-based testing has emerged as a new technology to assess the complex biologic protective mechanisms in the cells. Put simply, the test can tell what is going on inside the cells of our bodies after consuming the supplement. Most products that use antioxidants as a marketing claim today have used 'chemical based' methods to base their claims (ORAC Testing). With the introduction of the CAP-e, "cell-based testing" it is now possible to go to the next level of testing.

The CAP-e assay is performed by allowing red blood cells to absorb antioxidants from a physiological liquid containing soluble product. All compounds not absorbed into the cell are then removed. The cell is exposed to oxidative stress. An indicator dye shows the degree of intracellular damage to the cell, in the presence versus absence of serial dilutions of the test product. The CAP-e test uses erythrocyte cells. “Erythrocyte” means “red blood cell”. This type of cell is the most abundant in our blood stream. In a healthy person there are more than 100 times more red blood cells than white blood cells. The red blood cells are best known as transporters of oxygen through our body. However, we are beginning to understand the enormity of other roles these cells play. Whereas the white blood cells provide protection from invading pathogens by immune defense mechanisms, the red blood cells support the life and health of the white blood cells. Of importance to the antioxidant discussion, the red blood cells help to protect the vasculature, tissue, and the other cells in the blood stream from oxidative damage.

NuVerus is one of the only companies using both the ORAC Testing and the CAP-e testing on our flagship product NuVerus Plus.
